MongoDB in your Plash dashboard
Plash connects to MongoDB and shows its numbers next to your other app tools, starting with documents, data size, index size and indexes per collection. Connect it once, link it to any app, and get alerts when something changes.
What you see from MongoDB
- Documents, data size, index size and indexes per collection
- New documents per day, from ObjectId timestamps
- A read-only document browser for admins
What Plash reads
Database and collection stats (documents, data and index size, indexes), new documents per day from ObjectId timestamps, and, for admins, a read-only browser of your documents. Plash only reads; give it a read-only user.
- The string holds a password: Plash encrypts it at rest and never shows it again.
- Add the database name after the host (…mongodb.net/mydb) if the user can only read one database.
- Private and local network hosts are refused.
Setup
How to connect MongoDB
- 1
Create a read-only database user
Atlas › your project › Security › Database Access › Add New Database User. Choose password authentication and the built-in role "Only read any database" (or "read" on one database).
Open cloud.mongodb.com ↗ - 2
Allow Plash to connect
Atlas › Security › Network Access › Add IP Address. Add the Plash server’s IP, or 0.0.0.0/0 if you rely on the password alone.
- 3
Copy the connection string
Atlas › Database › Connect › Drivers. Copy the mongodb+srv:// string and put in the new user’s password. Self-hosted works too with a public mongodb:// host.
